Excuse Me!!

Okay, I have found something. But before, does anyone really read this? Am I just typing to myself so in years ahead I will be proud of myself that I read these books and many others.

On the news!! I have to read more than 100 books! Yes!! One example is that I got the Chronicles of Narnia from the library. The husband texted saying he would be bringing the biggest book home. Well, did you know the Chronicles are all of the books and there are 7? So, in reality I am reading 107 books.

It also says Harry Potter Books. So, all of them?

Thankfully, the first Games of Thrones book is specified on the poster to be it. But, it’s not just 100 books. Just to let you know that I know I have to read more books than I was thinking.

29. A brave new world

29. A Brave new world by: Aldous Huxley

This is one that I had to stop reading at page 20. I couldn’t make myself go any further. I like dystopian books. Dont make fun of me when I bring up Divergent and The Giver books. There was another series if books I loved and it was like a 7 or 8 book series.

So, I am a fan of these types of books, but this one was out of this world. Making children in petri dishes. Okay fine. But, using Freudian ways to disarm children and make babies know their caste system by 8 months. The really weirdness which put me off was even though these same children were doctored and made up in a lab, they were not only asked but made to touch each other during recess. I just typed that and didnt want to. But, that was the point that made me stop.

28. The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner By: Khaled Hosseini

I watched the preview to the movie version and also looked it up on Good reads. There wasn’t a lot of people saying that they loved it or hated it.

It was a book that I think Book Clubs should read b/c there are so many different discussions to have about the book.

It also was a book that I didn’t want to put down and throughout the book I was amazed by what was happening. I sometimes pride myself in figuring out things, but a couple of the things that happen in the book, I did not suspect.

This is a book that really does need to be chatted about. I wanted to post question to see if anyone wants to discuss it, but it does have a lot of different elements to it. Not based on a true story, but I believe many different things that came up in the book probably happened/happens everyday.

The movie Synopsis:

Afghani immigrant Amir is summoned from his California home to Pakistan by Rahim Khan, an old, dying friend of his father. As a boy in Afghanistan, wealthy Amir was best friends with servant’s son Hassan, but when Hassan was brutally assaulted by a local bully, Amir was too scared to save him, and has been tormented by guilt ever since.

The main message on the Book:

Betrayal, which can be considered a form of sin, is enduring and ends up being cyclical in The Kite Runner. For most of the novel, Amir attempts to deal with his guilt by avoiding it. But doing this clearly does nothing toward redeeming himself, and thus his guilt endures.

In the end, the main character is able to move between Betrayal, Guilt, and Redemption

27. Memoirs of a Geisha

27. Memoirs of a Geisha by ‎Arthur Golden

Number 1. Did you know that this book was written by a man?

Number 2. I have never seen the movie. When looking up things about it, many different times it said that it was a well known book and that people who have read it were excited to see the movie.

I really enjoyed the book. It was the first in a while that was over 400 pages. It was one that you didn’t know what was going to happen next. Even though it was written by a man who is not of Asian descent, he did well with helping the reader feel like you were there.

At one point in the book, the main character who is also the narrator, was speaking later in life. She was in New York at a bar meeting with friends. When she spoke about her younger life and how she was a Geisha, one woman whispered, “Oh, she was a prostitute.” That is what I thought coming into the book. In some ways you can call it that depending on where the Geisha lives, and what she decides or what is decided for her. Many of these women have no choice. Their choice is to live. By that, they must do what they are told to do.

This is one book that I would recommend to others.

26. Pride and Prejudice

Pride and Prejudice By: Jane Austen

I started the book again, but it was like reading an old friend. I know this book front to back. I also loved the movie. But, whenever I think of Pride and Prejudice, I think of You Got Mail.

Back to the book, it is always a wonder if the two main characters get together in the end. Also, how much both of them have feelings for each other and show by helping the other in different ways.

It’s a book that I think everyone should read.

25. Never Let Me Go

Never Let Me Go

By: Kazuo Ishiguro

I remember reading this book at one time. Or did I see some of the movie and just remember a little. This Utopian/cultish book makes you want to know what is going to happen at the end. Do they realize they were born to be donations with their bodies? Who falls in love with whom? Do people who aren’t taught about about constantly talk about it with friends? And so, I really enjoyed my 25th book on my poster. 25 books look like a lot scratched off.

If you have this book or enjoyed any of the others, please let me know.

24. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

24. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

By: Douglas Adams

Okay, so I have heard many different things about this book. Well, I think the movie more.

A little about the book since this is what this blog is about. It was good. Sci-Fi like which is not my favorite, but it was good that I did want to finish it. It was such a good book once you remembered who all of the characters were.

My sister loves the Fifth Element movie. I loved the Firefly series. There are people that go to see the movie and dress up. How about The Rocky Horror Picture Show and watching the movie while people stand up to move around like the movie? There are so many clubs and just people who love the same movies and do things together.

I would also like to say that I started this blog right after Christmas and I am already at 24 books. Some have been so good and some I have wanted to throw at the floor on page 10. I am really enjoying the scratch off poster but I am also enjoying beginning and continuing with something.

23. The girl with the dragon tattoo

The girl with the dragon tattoo By: Stieg Larsson

This is the first book on the list that I couldn’t put down. I still had another 100 pages to read last night, but it was getting late and my eyes kept closing. I finished it and it was so good. A mystery that you think of what will happen, or who the bad guy is, but in reality it’s totally different than you expected. Some people told me that they had tried to read it numerous times. The husband said that he had seen the Swedish movie version of the book and wondered if I would like it. BC of the….family relationship and physical things the characters get into, (that’s the nicest way to put it) I don’t really want to see the movie, but I can see why they made it. At this time I already have 3 more books waiting to be read, or I definitely would have started on the next book.

22. The Magic Mountain

The Magic Mountain By: Thomas Mann

It was another one that I decided to stop at 100 pages. It started off really well. A man goes on a trip and stops to see his cousin at a live in hospital that also allows guests to stay. The cousin is sick, while the main character is able to stay and enjoy the meals and nice room. But, it didnt get anywhere.

No. I got to page 13 and no thank you. Many of the reviews on Goodreads had said that it was a good book and not as indecent as the movie or book reviews shows. 13 pages in the main character talked using very many adjectives that would make the people who loved the Grey movies blush. And so, no thank you.
