49. The Escape Artist by: Brad Meltzer.

Book Bought

Husband’s pick of the month! This is the first book in a series so I can see myself reading the next book. Thank you, Daniel!!!

Synopsis: directly from Goodreads:

Two hours outside of Washington, DC is the mortuary for the U.S. government’s most top-secret and high profile cases. America’s most important funeral home. To work there, mortician Jim “Zig” Zigarowski has one rule: never let a case get personal. But when a new body arrives–of young female sergeant Nola Brown, who was a childhood friend of Zig’s daughter–Zig can’t help himself. Looking closely at Nola’s body, he realizes immediately: this isn’t Nola. Indeed, his daughter’s friend is still alive. And on the run. Zig’s discovery reveals a sleight of hand being played at the highest levels of power–and traces back through history to a man named Harry Houdini. “Nola, you were right. Keep running.”

Recommendation: I couldn’t put the book down. It was an easy read, even with multiple time changes and numerous characters. I screamed out loud when it came to one point in the book and there was still another surprise a couple of chapters later. I didn’t figure out the big picture.

Trigger Warnings: A character is emotionally abused as a child. Her foster dad calls her ugly names which will make you cringe.

Synopsis: a graphic novel is about a girl growing up with a mother and father who both were cooks. Her ability to travel at a young age. The book has recipes throughout it.

Recommend: Yes! A woman on you tube said that this was one of her favorite books about food. The bright colors and pictures were wonderful. If you like graphic novels, this would be a good one for you. But, maybe not for middle schoolers unless you want to talk about her cousin who pays playboys in Mexico and reads them throughout their trip.
